Douglas is the present capital of the Island, having replaced Castletown in 1869. Douglas is home to the administration and government of the Island with the House of Keys, and Tynwald Court room situated on the east side of Prospect Hill. Douglas promenade extends for well over two miles around the bay with Castle Mona, the former residence of the Governors of the Isle of Man, occupying a central position.
